WHAT KISUMU COUNTY GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO DEVELOP

The BillBoard

Kisumu county government was yesterday ranked among the last counties to spend the littlest money on development.

This begs the question, is Kisumu not in need of development. The larger majority of the residents are wallowing in acute poverty going by the standards of the UN. If water, food, shelter, and proper healthcare misses, the region is in the brink of collapsing.

However, the lakeside county is one that is so green in development ranging from real estate, food production, entertainment, hospitality and banking business.

Kisumu according to 2009 census has 989000 people within the town.Approximately there are 2 million people in the county. This large number creates an economic gap between the producers and consumers.

Kisumu has more consumers who need services on a daily basis. The county government should begin by building the pier once more to enhance transport in the lake. Kisumu is strategic and nothing can stop it form being the…

Scientists develop prototype contact lens that lets users zoom in and out

image

Magnify or reduce
according to your
eyesight with your
advanced prototype
contact lenses
In light of the importance of
science and technology (S&T)
in the world today, the
scientists and researchers are
working day and night to
make the world more
comfortable with their
advanced researches and
technologies. One such
project could change the way
we see forever, especially the
ones with eyesight issues.
What would you say, if you
had a contact lens which
would let you zoom in and
out as per your preference?
The scientists have done
exactly that!

Recently scientists had
developed new advanced
prototype of contact lenses
that could give the wearer a
more clear vision than earlier.
What’s more, the advanced
prototype will also the user to
zoom in and out with normal
and 3x magnification. The
lens so developed will prove a
boon to thousands of elderly
people suffering from vision
loss, both far and near
sighted.

The prototype lenses,
presented at the American
Association for the
Advancement of Science in
San Jose, California, contain
tiny aluminium telescopes
that would interact with a
pair of specially designed
glasses to allow you to toggle
between normal and ‘zoomed
in’ viewing.

The operating instructions
tell users to wink the right
eye to zoom in and the left
to zoom out.
The lens was first developed
by the US Defence
Advanced Research Projects
Agency as super-thin
cameras for aerial drones,
have been retooled as a
possible solution for those
with age-related macular
degeneration.

Macular degeneration
occurs when the light
receptors on the inner
surface of the eye are lost,
resulting in blurred central
vision. With one cannot be
able to read clearly making
it impossible to work.
Eric Tremblay, optical
engineer from the Swiss
Federal Institute of
Technology in Lausanne said
that the contact lenses has
more appealing for the
average person and also to
those related to Macular
degeneration.

Tremblay told the Daily Mail
that “At this point, it is still
research but we are very
hopeful it will eventually
become a real option for
people with age-related
macular degeneration.”
The recent prototypes are
rigid which allow light
through the centre of the
lenses, are bigger and
thicker than traditional
lenses.

However, before the lenses
can be rolled out
commercially, the scientists
are working on it to make it
lighter and breathable
enough for long-term user.

Find out if the UK used NSA data to spy on you

image

While it’s sadly likely that your
communications have passed
through an intelligence agency at
some point , it’s usually difficult
to know just who got your data.

However, you now have a rare
opportunity to find out. Thanks
to a ruling that the UK’s GCHQ
illegally spied on people using
NSA databases, advocacy group
Privacy International has posted
a simple web form that lets you
ask if you were caught in
Britain’s law-breaking dragnet —
and, as you might expect,
petition against mass
surveillance.

This won’t provide the most comprehensive results
(you should use the official form
if you’re really worried), but it
should still lead to GCHQ purging
the relevant records if there’s a
match. The only big problem?

The request is limited to the
past data covered by the ruling,
so there’s no guarantee that
you’re truly off the radar .
