National Steering Committee on Media Monitoring has recommended the investigation of David Matsanga for perpetrating hate speech on social media.
The committee, while recommending the probe and prosecution of Matsanga, said unless drastic steps are taken immediately to curb the volatile negative debate on social media in Kenya which focuses on political lineation and relationships of three main ethnic groups it could spark chaos in the country.
“This is no idle threat. It has happened recently in northern African countries,” the committee said.
Furthermore the committee also picked out seven bloggers in connection with extreme hate speech, incitement and the use of obscenities.
“These bloggers go by the name of John Mutuku, Abdul Majid Mohammed, Joseph Mwangi, Wycliff Ojijo, Tonny Lijodi, Esther Wanjala and Simon Mbugua,” the committee added.
